The late reply and the apology: a moral tale from the 21st century

Image
Why do some of us keep apologising when we don't reply to a text instantly ? When we were legimitally busy, or not in the right mood to answer a few messages? With messaging apps almost all displaying when we’re active or not and the brain and hand extension that has become our mobile phone, it is sometimes difficult for certain people to not apologise when taking longer than a few hours to answer a friend or even just an acquaintance. Yes, okay, of course: there’s a category of people who will apologise when getting back to you JUST to emphasize on how busy they are and how way worse their job is and how much more stuff they have to do daily – and basically how extremely fascinating and active their life is in comparison to yours. Let’s forget about these ones. Not the ones we’re talking about today, although we might someday deal with them in another article. No, today we’re talking about the ones – including me – who live with a sort of constant fear and stress of

The 2000s are coming back: the reasons why this era is so fascinating today

Low-rise jeans, colourful belly button piercings, Juicy Couture velvet tracksuits, spaghetti strap tops and candy pink lipglosses: it’s hard to ignore the 2000s fashion coming back in the streets or on social media. But what is the explanation behind the rebound of these trends once deemed kitsch and not so harmonious?   The “Plastics” from Mean Girls , 2004. © Alamy The 2000s, a frivolity period full of energy The whole era could be summed up in one word: carefreeness. The 2000s are a colourful time, a bubble out of the time which bloomed after the AIDS years and which started an injunction to not take oneself seriously. Fashion trends were sometimes uncertain – among them the bob, the Hawaiian shirt, flip-flops and full denim outfits – and were the result of this will to not bend to any limit, but not only. It’s for the same reason that this period, which still bore the multicoloured exuberance of the 1980s and the aventurous and tomboyish casualness of the 199

Things to do instead of thinking and crying about your ex

Image
The title is pretty self-explanatory, I guess. Here is a list of all the things you could do – and should do – instead of torturing yourself about that cheater, liar and manipulator of an ex. 1. Meditate, or start yoga, or do stretching exercises everyday to improve your flexibility Do something that eases both your body and your mind. Take time to focus on the physical feelings and how they connect to your psyche. Trust me, it works. And it's pretty efficient. 2. Cook your favourite meal and also try new recipes I have been craving not just for new types of food, but also for me to take care of myself, of my health and ........ of my taste buds. Yeah. Cooking for yourself, and even for others (invite your friends and family, hey!), makes you feel good about yourself. It's as simple as that. 3. Start a new hobby: drawing, sewing, singing, writing, scrapbooking ...  Get handy and get creative! When I go through a rough breakup, I just wa

It's a comeback

Long time no see, right? Well here I am. I have been wanting to write a new article on this blog for so long, but never actually did it. And now I am sitting at my desk, finally typing a new, fresh one for you to read. A loooot of things have changed since my last article, wow. It is quite amazing to read everything again and think about how my life has changed since then. Okay, context: I am currently finishing my Bachelor's degree, after spending the first semester of this academic year as an Erasmus student in the UK, in Hull (for those of you who don't clearly see where it is, it is in the East Riding of Yorkshire, above the Humber river). Annnnd. Oh dear. This Erasmus experience was quite the adventure, eh. I used to be this girl who would always focus on her studies first, and never dare to go out with friends, even for a drink. I was too scared to make a step out of my comfort zone, I would just go to uni, get back, work, eat, shower and sleep. And

Where has my creativity gone ?

Image
No, but for real though. I know I haven't published anything on this blog for more than 5 months but I'm telling you right away : this post is going to be a bit personal and serious this time. You've been warned! :) ☀  ☀  ☀ "Where has my creativity gone?" This is a question I've been increasingly asking myself for a few months, to the point that I decided to write about it, and put words on it to free myself from those endless thoughts and questions - even though I do know it won't suddenly put them to a stop. I absolutely love writing and I care a lot about this blog, I've also always loved writing, literally since I gained the ability to do so around age 6 - my first writings were poems about chocolate, caramel and vanilla written on an old cubic Macintosh computer in my sister's room I asked my father to print (he was really happy about it, trust me) -, I wrote tens of novels that still remain unachieved, and I do not want thi

5 signs you act like your cat is a baby

Image
"Why aren't you interested in this new toy I just gave you? WHY?" Warning: this post is going to include loads of cute cat gifs. Don't come and say I didn't warn ya . First of all, I'm sorry if you're a dog person : this post may not suit you and your personal interest. Hey guys ! It's Em, and today I'm back with a funnier yet still very true post about... cats. And our behaviour towards those adorable - though sometimes eerie - creatures. Since it's something I'm deeply aware I'm doing, I wanted to open about it (wow it sounds pretty serious right now, what is happening?) and tell you the 5 signs you might be treating your cat like it's a baby. Yup . Don't deny it, we all tend to treat our animals like babies - hey, dog persons ! see, I'm thinking 'bout you too ! -, and it's not a bad thing . Okay, sometimes it might just be a little too much but, well, we really want what's best for th

What you want to do during Summer VS what you really do

Image
It's been 19 years and I still don't know if I love this season or if I hate it.  An accurate representation of me during Summer. Oh hi guys ! It's me ! Again ! Em ? Remember ? Well... I'm back !  And I can't say that I've been way too busy to write a new post because I clearly wasn't for the past two months..... Well, I've been making Sims videos on my Youtube Channel, so that's one reason why I wasn't here, and I also went to Paris for 5 days but I guess that does not make a relevant argument as well (But you can see photos of my short stay on my Instagram page if you want btw). Soooo... This idea just came to my mind : I've been wanting to do quite some stuff during Summer break, but haven't done half of it (yet, okay). And I just thought "why not be real about what actually happens in Summer with all the goals and plans we set up for ourselves to achieve during this period of time ?".  So let's d
